Reese Witherspoon Hides Baby Bump With Giant Purse

Reese Witherspoon Hides Baby Bump With Giant Purse

Reese Witherspoon Hides Baby Bump With Giant Purse, Reese Witherspoon's baby bump isn't ready for its close-up. The actress, who's currently expecting her first child with CAA agent hubby Jim Toth, 41, shielded her pregnancy curves from photographers while exiting the Byron and Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills Tuesday. It's no surprise, given that Witherspoon decided not to officially announce her baby news.

"[She wants to] let people figure it out," a source said when Us Weekly broke the news of her pregnancy. "She's been showing for a while."

The expectant mom, 37, who wed Toth last March at her $7 million Ojai, California ranch, is elated about adding to her brood. (She and ex Ryan Phillippe, 37, share custody of daughter Ava, 12, and son Deacon, 8). "Settling down with Jim and raising a family is what she wanted," a second insider explained.

The actress, who is around 13 weeks, is planning to take a break from acting to focus on motherhood. "She wants to have this child and take time off," a source told Us.

It's not such a bad idea, give that her last three films -- This Means War, Water for Elephants and How Do You Know -- were box office bombs. "She's not getting great offers," a source said of Witherspoon, who commands up to $15 million per picture.

A source added: "She wants to relaunch her career completely and have Jim handle it."

Hyundai pimped out with Rihanna, Katy Perry art, Car pimped out with Perry art, At 2,500 Aussie dollars (about $2,687 US), it may seem a bit steep for a 1992 Hyundai Excel, but when you factor in a custom paint job featuring portraits of both Katy Perry and Rihanna, it's practically a steal. The Gumtree.com ad states that the car has a shade under 125,000 miles and says the artwork -- with Rihanna on the driver's side and Perry riding shotgun -- is worth a cool $4,000 on its own. We didn't know the guys making airbrushed T-shirts at the mall could do cars!

'Lamborghini Batman' Reveals True Identity

'Lamborghini Batman' Reveals True Identity

'Lamborghini Batman' Reveals True Identity, Lamborghini 'Batman' unmasked, Real life Batman Lamborghini, He may not be out fighting crime, but his reason for dressing up as the Dark Knight is just as noble. Entrepreneur Lenny Robinson--aka Lamborghini Batman, aka the Route 29 Batman--has revealed his rationale for driving a supercar around Maryland, dressed as the Dark Knight. Turns out he does it for the kids.

Every time we've run stories about Batman getting pulled over in his Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder around Washington, D.C., the questions of the Dark Knight's real identity have only grown more insistent. Today, the Washington Post reveals his true identity: a businessman named Lenny who uses his wealth to entertain children in pediatric cancer wards.

Lenny B. Robinson earned his fortune through starting his own businesses, and puts some of it toward creating as accurate a Batman as possible in suburban Maryland, with a $5,000 Batman costume and $25,000 a year in Batman comics and other goods he hands out on his visits.

While the Gallardo Spyder with not-quite-legal Batplates and matching logos throughout might be sufficient for most real-life superheroes, Robinson has plans for an honest-to-Alfred replica of the Tim Burton-era Batmobile. (There are enough already built he could probably buy a nice one used.)

These photos come from Hope for Henry, an organization that throws superhero gatherings at D.C.-area children's hospitals to cheer the patients and support their families. He's been doing it for 11 years; his son used to join him dressed as Robin, and the suit is so accurate in its coverage Robinson can lose a few pounds of sweat every appearance:

"Eventually, it sinks in and you become him," Batman told [the Post.] "It feels like I have a responsibility that's beyond a normal person. And that responsibility is to be there for the kids, to be strong for them, and to make them smile as much as I can." He understands that might sound corny, but he doesn't care.

Don't ever let anyone tell you superheroes aren't real.

Leonardo DiCaprio Teen Look Alike

Leonardo DiCaprio Teen Look Alike

Leonardo DiCaprio Teen Look Alike, How 'Gatsby' Found Its Young Leo, An Aussie actor wins a global search for the role of a younger DiCaprio in "The Great Gatsby." Given Jay's storied history with Daisy, finding an actor to play the teenage version of Leonardo DiCaprio's leading man in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming Great Gatsby adaptation was of utmost importance.

After a global search, Australian actor Callan McAuliffe (who you may remember from I Am Number Four and Flipped) won the highly coveted part. But that's when the real work began.

"I don't actually look much like Leo," the dark hair, brown eyed actor tells TheInsider.com. "So they gave me blue contact lenses, dyed my hair blonde and put it up in this coif – it's interesting how much that altered my face. It really changed the way I looked. They really put a lot of work in to making a strong resemblance."

Once the physical transformation was complete, Callan got to work on synching up his version of Jay with Leonardo's take. "I'm not playing Young Leo, I'm playing Young Jay Gatsby, but it was important to get a sense of what he was doing with the character. So Baz took me into the editing booth and I watched some of his scenes. Everyone really seemed to like my take on the character, so we just blended the two together."

And audiences will get to see the fruits of their joint labor when The Great Gatsby opens on December 25 in 3D -- a choice that initially threw Callan for a loop too. "You don't see many movies that aren't big action things doing 3D, but when we went to the first cast read-through, Baz sat us down, gave everybody 3D glasses, wheeled out this enormous TV and showed us a few sequences they'd put together. It's not like they're trying too hard. Nothing is being thrown at the camera so it flies at the audience. It's more about this fantastic color pallate – it's all bright blues and greens. The 3D just brings everything to life in a much richer way.

+Ousted 'Idol' Singer's Hilarious Exit Talk

+Ousted 'Idol' Singer's Hilarious Exit Talk

+Ousted 'Idol' Singer's Hilarious Exit Talk, Heejun Han’s Hilarious ‘Idol’ Exit Interview Could Be An Audition For A Fox Sitcom, Heejun Han talks about dinosaurs, fireworks on his armpits, and being on Steven Tyler's bad side. Heejun Han was voted off "American Idol" this week, but considering the comedy he brought to the press tent when he came backstage to talk to reporters after his elimination, Fox should consider bringing Heejun back to the network and giving him his own sitcom. (The only thing that might jeopardize the chances of that happening would be the number of times Heejun kept mentioning rival NBC show "The Voice" to reporters, much to the presumed chagrin of Fox powers-that-be.) Seriously, folks--or not so seriously, as it were--this guy is true TV gold.

Speaking to Reality Rocks backstage Thursday, Heejun said he had no regrets about stripping onstage during his infamous kooky performance of "My Life" that put him on disapproving judge Steven Tyler's bad side. "If I could go back, the one thing that I would change is I'd rip off my pants also," he revealed. When it was suggested that he might be able to pull off a Chippendales-esque stunt like that on this summer's Idols Live Tour, he declared, "I will just tell you now to your pink camera [yes, this interview was shot on a pink camera]: On tour, something crazy is going to happen. There is going to be a dinosaur, fireworks on my armpit--amazing things are going to happen. Come watch the freakin' tour!"

The tour will offer a chance for Heejun to carry on his bromance with his "Idol" BFF Phillip Phillips, who actually seemed more upset about Heejun's departure than Heejun was on Thursday. "Phillip was kind of sad 'cause his kidney was hurting," clarified Heejun. "But you know, he had to suck it up."

So, does Heejun have any regrets about his crazy "Idol" run? "There's one thing that I'm kind of sad about," he said. "I was going to do 'Yah Mo Be There' by Michael McDonald and James Ingram [for '80s Night]." Oh, darn. If only Heejun could have stayed just one more week...

Selma Blair Breastfeeds in Public Controversy

Selma Blair Breastfeeds in Public Controversy

Selma Blair Breastfeeds in Public Controversy, Controversy over breastfeeding in public, Why You Shouldn't Be Offended, Actress and new mom Selma Blair reignites the debate by announcing, "I don't care if I offend." "Passerby be warned," begins a post on People.com. "When Selma Blair's 8-month-old son is hungry, the actress doesn't hesitate to breastfeed him, no matter the audience."

That opener alone sums up the thorny debate over public breastfeeding. It should seem simple enough to anyone who's had a baby or knows someone who's had a baby, that when a child needs to eat nothing else matters. Not table manners, not the roving eyes of strangers, and not the personal opinions of anyone but the newborn screaming for breast-milk . But for every mother publicly feeding her child, there's someone taking offense.

"We all have nipples," Blair, 39, tells People. "If I can't get a cover over me quick enough, so be it."

I am not a mother, but I know from those who are, that everything changes. Any residual body issues or shyness leftover from teenage years, takes a backseat to the needs of a newborn.

This is particularly obvious when female celebrities, who spend their careers fending off hackers, Hefners and Hollywood producers, to keep their private parts private, whip out their breast in a restaurant at the sound of their baby's cries.

It's not that nobody notices: when Beyonce recently nursed Blue Ivy, tableside in New York, it became the lead story in Time Magazine. Was she making a public statement about breastfeeding? Was she championing the public nursing movement? More likely, she was just feeding her baby to best of her ability in that moment. The world isn't made for breastfeeding moms.

"As a mother who breast-fed my three children when they were infants, I sympathize with any mom who has the inevitable awkward moment of trying to nurse in public without giving a sideshow," writes Michelle Henry, a Michigan mom of three, in a letter to her local paper. "I can testify there are very few public places for moms to breast-feed alone, in any sort of comfortable spot. Ever try nursing or holding an infant on a little tiny triangle bench in the corner of a department store dressing room?"

Henry's letter was a response to a recent incident wherein a Michigan judge told a mom of a two-month-old to stop breastfeeding in the courthouse. Despite it being totally legal, the judge said, "it's my courtroom, I decide what's appropriate in here."

If you ask Kim Kardashian, breastfeeding isn't appropriate at a restaurant either. "EWW I'm at lunch, the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby with no cover-up then puts baby on the table and changes her diaper," she tweeted.

Like NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne, who described a mom nursing her kid in a supermarket as "nasty", Kardashian isn't a mother. Most famous opponents of public breastfeeding aren't.

In recent years, moms trying their best to breastfeed discretely in public places have been booted from planes, restaurants and shopping centers. Then Facebook joined the "appropriate" police force.

After numerous complaints, the social networking giant removed breast-feeding photos from its site on the grounds that it's lewd content.

"There's no other way to look at it. We're being treated as pornographers," Emma Kwasnica, a breastfeeding educator protesting Facebook's decision, told a CBS affiliate. In fairness, the site is also home to multiple public breastfeeding advocate groups, like "respect the breast," launched by moms who are "tired of people lashing out at what is natural and what they believe is healthy for their children."

Breastfeeding in the first six months of a child's life is particularly crucial to the long-term health of a baby. Both the World Health Organization and the US Surgeon General have launched campaigns to encourage mothers who can breastfeed, to overcome both physical and logistic challenges and stick with it.

In the United States, mothers have the legal right to breastfeeding in public. But because of social backlash, some moms carry a copy of the law as protection where ever they go. Others have joined the "nurse-in" movement, organizing grassroots protests and rallying celebrities to champion on their behalf,
in effect, position the public breastfeeding issue on the front-lines of the women's rights movement.

Never underestimate the power of a hungry baby. And that's really what this fever-pitch debate is all about. When a newborn needs food, it's mother will feed it. That's not a choice, it's an instinct. As Blair puts it: "I don't care who I offend; my baby wants to eat."

David Beckham Posh Spice Tattoo

David Beckham Posh Spice Tattoo

David Beckham Posh Spice Tattoo, Huge dustup over David Beckham's tattoo, David Beckham’s Posh Spice tattoo draws complaints from UK schools, The soccer star has had the ink for four years, but now groups across Britain are complaining. Having a tattoo of the word 'Victoria' incorrectly spelled in Sanskrit clearly wasn't enough for David Beckham, so in 2008 he added to his ink collection with a lingerie-clad depiction of his wife on his left forearm.

Despite being clearly visible for the past four years — and essentially just an outline drawing of a woman in underwear — the tattoo is now at the center of a huge kerfuffle, as it features on a flyer distributed by UK supermarket chain Sainsburys to 47,000 schools and community groups. The Sun reports:

Pictures of Becks' tattoo of Victoria in lingerie on his arm appeared on promotional posters and collection boxes for the Sainsbury's Active Kids scheme.

Anita Deacon, of Winshill Pre-School in Burton, Staffordshire, said: "We're not being prudish.

"We just think it's inappropriate. The tattoo depicts Posh Spice wearing nothing but underwear and posing provocatively."

Pre-school manager Lynne Baker also complained, saying she would keep the offending material on display, but only if it was "too high up for the children to see". Thus completely defeating the object of posting it up.

Forgoing the irony of this news being reported in The Sun — a newspaper that features a full-page topless woman every single day — reacting in this manner to a tattoo on one of the most photographed men in the world seems a little over the top. Nevertheless, Sainsbury's has profusely apologized for the offense they may have caused.

If the supermarket wishes to re-distribute the flyer, perhaps they should consider my elegant solution to the problem...

Kate Winslet's harsh words about 'Titanic' song

Kate Winslet's harsh words about 'Titanic' song

Kate Winslet's harsh words about 'Titanic' song, Kate Winslet: Celine Dion’s ‘Titanic’ Song Makes Me Want to Throw Up, The star says an ugly feeling overcomes her when she hears Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." There is no love lost between Kate Winslet and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," the theme song to her 1997 blockbuster, "Titanic." The Oscar-winning actress was asked her thoughts on the inescapable track during promotion for the 3-D release of the iconic film — and she didn't mince words. "Like throwing up," she described to MTV matter-of-factly. "No, I shouldn't say that … No, actually, I do feel like throwing up. I wish I could say, 'Oh listen, everybody! It's the Celine Dion song!' But I don't. I just have to sit there, you know, kind of straight-faced with a massive internal eye roll."

Perhaps the reason for Winslet's disdain for the song — which sold over more than 20 million copies worldwide — is because every time she walks into a bar or restaurant, someone always puts it on. "It's thrilling for people to surprise me with the Celine Dion song," she added with a laugh. Worse yet, some people have actually encouraged the "Mildred Pierce" actress, 36, to sing along. During a recent interview for a talk show in Italy, she says a pianist began to play "My Heart Will Go On" and the host "rather severely, urged [me] to go and sing it as though I had in fact sung it myself in the first place. It was like, 'No! I'm not going to do that.' They're like, 'Oh no, come on it will be funny.' No, it won't be funny. At all. And I'm not going to."

Thanks to "Titanic," it's not just "that song that shall go unnamed" that has forever haunted Winslet — so have boats in general. But not because she fears another accident with an iceberg. "I actually now get onto boats and say, 'No jokes, OK? No jokes. Can we just move on from that? And if you have any jokes, let's just get them out of the way right now. Thank you. Anyone? Jokes, jokes? OK, moving on.' And then they still tell jokes," Winslet said. The most unoriginal one? Asking the actress to reenact the "I'm the king of the world!" scene made famous by her onscreen love, Leonardo DiCaprio. Despite the annoyance, Winslet maintains good humor about it. "Oh, yeah! Oh, that one! Oh, don't worry, it's my party piece. Sure, come on up, bring your granny."

Disabled boy robbed of $250 gets windfall

Disabled boy robbed of $250 gets windfall, $25,000 donated to child in wheelchair who was robbed of fundraising cash, Nolan Turner was raising money for wheelchair basketball when a thief took advantage. 12-year-old Nolan Turner was robbed last week while selling water bottles as part of a fundraising for a basketball camp that caters to children and adults in wheelchairs. Cary boy raises $28K for charity after theft, Nolan Turner, a 12-year-old Cary boy, was raising money last week for charity when someone stole the cash he had raised.

Turner, who had raised about $250 at the time, has spina bifida. But what started out as a potentially heartbreaking story has turned into an inspiration tale. After the Charlotte Observer first reported about Nolan's situation, thousands of individuals began donating to his fundraising effort.

And now, Nolan has raised nearly $25,000. Nolan, who has helped in previous fundraising efforts, said his original fundraising goal was $1,000.

"As I have told many people so far, we are simply overwhelmed with the positive response that we have gotten from everybody," Nolan's father, Ken Turner, wrote on the GoFundMe account he has set up for his son. "Nolan is so excited about the positive responses that he has been getting."

Nolan is raising the funds to support a wheelchair basketball event at his elementary school and organized by the non-profit organization Bridge II Sports.

"It's crazy how that mean act has turned into something positive that has allowed us to do so much more,'' Bridge II Sports founder Ashley Thomas told the Today Show. "The response has been huge.''

With all of the extra fundraising success, Bridge II Sports says they will now expand the basketball game to a full-day event at Nolan's school, with the additional funds going to help support the one-week Camp Carefree summer camp for children with disabilities and other health issues.

"I'm happy that there are so many good people in the world and that they are helping my team,'' Turner told the Today Show. "Junior Thunder is my favorite thing in my life. Playing wheelchair basketball lets me feel like a regular kid.''

The Observer reports that the donations have come in amounts ranging from $5 to $500. One parent posting on Nolan's GoFundMe page said her children had volunteered to donate their allowance to the effort. Police are still searching for the man who robbed Nolan and disappeared into the nearby woods.

$640 million jackpot sparks big buzz

$640 million jackpot sparks big buzz

$640 million jackpot sparks big buzz, Y! Big Story: Mega Millions long odds and unreasoned dreams, The largest prize in U.S. lottery history creates a frenzy as hopefuls rush to buy tickets. One in 176 million. Let me spell that out: 1 in 176,000,000. Protecting yourself if you win the lotto, But it's another number—$640,000,000—that's creating a feeding frenzy among ticket buyers hoping for a shot at that historic Mega Millions jackpot. (Heck, even a gorilla is playing.) The bounty crushes the previous record of $390 million.

Then again, that 2007 number came when only a dozen states got to play. Now 42 states plus Washington, D.C., and the Virgin Islands are participating, which makes the bounty huge but the 1-in-176-million odds inconceivably long.

A teachable math moment. Eight out of 10 conversations this week: "Did you know that you have more of a chance of X than of winning the lottery?" Yes, the glee surrounding the impossible odds has been as heady as the fantasy of winning itself. And people tend to put these odds in mighty grim terms, tallied by Dakota Wesleyan University (Mitchell, S.D.) mathematics department chair Mike Catalano:

"You are about 50 times as likely to get struck by lightning as to win the lottery, based on the 90 people a year getting struck by lightning. ... Based on other U.S. averages, you're about 8,000 times more likely to be murdered than to win the lottery, and about 20,000 times more likely to die in a car crash than hit the lucky numbers."

But why be so discouraging? Instead, how about being inspired by equally distant but cheerier odds? For instance, your chance of becoming president (1 in 10,000,000) is better than winning the lottery, so go for the Oval Office. (The president, incidentally, does not plan to buy, despite his good history with long shots.)
Who plays: Lottery foes feel the contest feeds on the hopes of people who can't afford to spend even a dollar on a dream. Fox News cited a study:

A 2008 study from Journal of Risk and Uncertainty explained that households earning under $13,000 per year spend about 9 percent of their income on lottery tickets on average, or around $645 a year.

But make the bait juicy enough, and the dreamer pool gets that much bigger, according to professor Philip Cook, co-author of "Selling Hope: State Lotteries in America." Cook confirmed that dreamers come out when the bait is big.

If the odds are so bad, why do people play? Typically, the poor and less-educated are the ones who play the scratch games and other games of chance. But big and highly visible lotteries, such as Mega Millions, draw people from across all socioeconomic groups, Cook says. Some of the allure is to be part of a national event. "Part of it is just our tendency to be optimistic and to dream," he adds.

And that dreaming is what people have been talking—and tweeting—about for days.

Tax season realities: As people buried in forms know, even if the magical lottery Valkyrie grants you your millions, you don't get it all. A lump sum payoff after taxes is around $359 million or even less, depending on what part of the loot your home state gets.

Out of the game: states that don't play. Since we're all about the math, if 42 states are participating, that means eight states are watching bemused from the sidelines: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Missippi, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. (Yes, your odds of winning money are better in Nevada.) They might regret standing above the fray this time:

The Christian Science Monitor (CSM) points out that the only guaranteed winners are the states, which get 35% of revenues. That's not counting the tax windfall for the state that houses the winner. Revenue of course goes towards government services, such as schools and scholarships. Unfortunately, unless the winner decides to buy a public school, the state cut isn't big enough to fund services: For instance, the cut for Illinois covered only 8% of school funding in 2009.

Mega Millions, good and bad: The lottery, originally Big Games, expanded to become Mega Millions in 2002. Oddly, the last prize of $68 million in its inaugural year has not been claimed. That's a tip: Check if you have won. ABC News Blogs and the Associated Press offer others, such as signing your ticket (in case you misplace it, so some angelic Samaritan can return it to you) and getting a professional financial team when you do win.

Speaking of winners, there's an I-told-you side that resurfaces whenever we talk about unhappy lottery winners, such as Jack Whittaker who won the Powerball payout of almost $315 million. His grief, as detailed by AP:

It's certainly a natural desire to help relatives in need and take care of future generations. But use extreme caution when giving out your money. Jack Whittaker, a West Virginia contractor who won a nearly $315 million Powerball jackpot in 2002, quickly fell victim to scandals, lawsuits and personal setbacks.

His foundation spent $23 million building two churches, and he's been involved in hundreds of legal actions. "If you win, just don't give any money away, because the more money you give away, the more they want you to give. And once you start giving it away, everybody will label you an easy touch and be right there after you. And that includes everybody," Whittaker said five years ago.

One more piece of advice: Once you win, get off the public dole. Makes you mighty unpopular, otherwise.

OK, OK, I know the odds. Can I still buy a ticket? Stand in line. Yes, the drawing's not until 11 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. PT. One report claims you can buy tickets up to 15 minutes before the draw, but check with the store first.

Michael J. Fox's 'dark' period with alcohol

Michael J. Fox's 'dark' period with alcohol, Michael J. Fox Dealt with Disease with Alcohol, After his Parkinson's diagnosis, the star hit the bottle until his drinking began to spiral. Michael J. Fox is opening up about battling Parkinson's disease for the past 20 and how he initially coped with his shocking diagnosis.

Fox, 50, who learned he was stricken with Parkinson's when he was in the prime of his career at age 30, admits that alcohol became an early crutch. "For a time I dealt with it with alcohol, which turned out to be a disaster. I'd always been kind of a partier, but this was the first time I was drinking in order not to feel something. It had a dark purpose," he tells Parade magazine.

The Family Ties star adds: "About a year after my diagnosis, I woke up one morning and saw (wife) Tracy's face...She said, 'Is this what you want?' Instantly I knew-no, this isn't what I want or who I am. So I quit drinking in '92. I recognized I had choices about drinking, and that made me realize I had choices about Parkinson's as well."

On dealing with his Parkinson's day-to-day, Fox says he doesn't "look at life as a battle or as a fight." "I don't think I'm scrappy. I'm accepting. I say 'living with' or 'working through' Parkinson's. Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it. I look at it like I'm a fluid that's finding the fissures and cracks and flowing through."

On why his wife of 23 years, actress Tracy Pollan, has stayed with him, Fox gives his wife a lot of the credit. "We've been very blessed and haven't had a lot of big challenges other than Parkinson's. Tracy knows she can count on me when there are issues we face. We still love each other and make each other laugh, which is probably the most important thing. She still thinks I'm smart and funny and sexy."

Ousted 'Idol' singer's hilarious exit talk

Ousted 'Idol' singer's hilarious exit talk

Ousted 'Idol' singer's hilarious exit talk, Heejun Han’s Hilarious ‘Idol’ Exit Interview Could Be An Audition For A Fox Sitcom, Heejun Han talks about dinosaurs, fireworks on his armpits, and being on Steven Tyler's bad side.

Stranded man survives 10 days in desert

Stranded man survives 10 days in desert

Stranded man survives 10 days in desert, Stranded man survives 10 days on snow; friend dies, A diabetic who wears a pacemaker uses skills he learned in Boy Scouts to defy the odds. A 76-year-old diabetic Colorado man survived 10 days in the remote Nevada desert by melting snow and using skills he learned as a Boy Scout, but a friend who was with him and ventured away to get help died.

James Klemovich and Laszlo Szabo, 75, went to scope out some mines in the state when their car became stuck on a lonely road with no cell phone service, Klemovich's wife, Joanne, said Thursday.

The men tried unsuccessfully to dislodge the car, and lit flares and started fires in hopes somebody would see them in northwestern Nevada's Pershing County, an area where less than 7,000 people are spread over 6,000 square miles.

They used a towel in the car to strain ditch water and snow into water bottles, but, after four or five days, Szabo left to get help. Joanne Klemovich began to worry when several days passed without a phone call from her husband.

"I figured maybe they'd had an accident and they were stranded," she said. "I thought maybe they were in a mine shaft. All kinds of things were going through my head."

Joanne Klemovich said she was expecting the worst when authorities called Tuesday night to say her husband had been found by military personnel who were holding training exercises in the area.

"I thought it was bad news, but it was very good news," she said by telephone from the couple's home in Littleton, Colo. "I didn't know what to even do or say."

James Klemovich has diabetes, wears a pacemaker and had a triple bypass heart surgery, his wife said.

He told her he wasn't panicking while he sat for days waiting for Szabo's return, she said. He kept a journal, noting how much water he drank and what he did each day. And he wrote a letter each day for her.

Drinking regularly was likely the biggest factor in his survival despite the diabetes that could have sent his blood sugar dangerously out of whack, according to Rita Kalyani, who teaches endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

During a fast, she said, the body can draw glucose from the liver or from fat stores to keep levels from dropping too low. But having enough water is essential to flush out excess glucose and prevent levels from rising too high.

When the military personnel found Klemovich, they gave him a banana, two oranges and three boiled eggs, he told his wife.

Szabo, of Lovelock, Nev., was found dead about a mile and a half away. An autopsy is being performed.
Klemovich said her husband hasn't been talking much about his friend and that she doesn't know whether Szabo has any close relatives.

"When I first talked to him I could tell he'd been through an ordeal," she said. "When he called back, he sounded pretty good."

James Klemovich is still in Nevada, waiting for the car to be recovered before returning home. He was treated and released from a hospital.

Joanne Klemovich said she knows the first words she'll say to her husband of 48 years as of Wednesday: "Happy belated anniversary."

Spike Lee pays up after Twitter debacle

Spike Lee pays up after Twitter debacle

Spike Lee pays up after Twitter debacle, Spike Lee settles for retweeting wrong address, The director picks up the tab for an elderly couple forced to leave their home thanks to his mistake. An elderly couple has reached a settlement with Spike Lee after the pair said they had to leave their Florida home after the director help spread a Twitter posting listing their address as that of the man who shot an unarmed teen. Sanford couple in fear after Spike Lee tweet, Elaine and David McClain say they have a son named William George Zimmerman who once lived in their Sanford-area house.

The couple's attorney, Matt Morgan, announced the settlement Thursday. Morgan says Lee called them to apologize for retweeting their address. Specifics of the settlement weren't disclosed.

Elaine and David McClain are in their 70s and say they have a son named William George Zimmerman, who lived in their Sanford area home in the mid-1990s. They say he is no relation to 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.

The killing has touched off widespread protests around the country and expressions of outrage — including from Lee and other celebrities — because Zimmerman was not arrested. The neighborhood watch volunteer has said he acted in self-defense.

"At this point in time, we have come to an agreement with Spike Lee and his attorneys, and at this point, the matter is fully resolved," Morgan said. "Spike has agreed to compensate the McClains for their loss and for the disruption into their lives. He's taken full responsibility."

Lee tweeted late Wednesday: "I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain's In Peace."

Morgan added that Lee also called the McClains to apologize personally.

"He was really kind," Elaine McClain said. "And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip, and I just know that he really, really has been concerned."

A production company representative for Lee in New York had no comment.

Schools Fighting Provocative Prom Dresses

Schools Fighting Provocative Prom Dresses

Schools Fighting Provocative Prom Dresses, Prom Dress Rules: High Schools Ban Sexy Gowns, One principal threatens to bring a ruler to the dance to make sure hemlines don't get too short. Prom is supposed to be a fairly tale evening, and some teenage girls (and boys) spend their entire senior year dreaming about it. It really would be an unforgettable night if you were turned away at the door for wearing an unacceptable dress.

The Wall Street Journal reports that high schools across the country are tightening their rules about what constitutes overly provocative prom clothing in response to more and more girls pushing the envelope with micro-minis, cut outs, and plunging necklines.

Trend watchers attribute the upsurge in revealing gowns to television shows such as "Dancing with the Stars" and Hollywood stars' sexy red carpet looks.

"It seems kind of petty," Cindi Lee, an Algebra teacher at Southmore High School outside Oklahoma City, told the Journal, "but we really do want them to understand we are holding them to a high standard." Administrators at the school have put together a twelve-page power-point presentation with close-cropped images to show students exactly what the rules are. "Words don't mean much to them," says Lee. Other schools are using posters and illustrated handouts.

Typical prom dress fails include gowns that are shorter than three inches above the knee, have low backs, are sheer, or have thigh-bearing slits.

Chaperones will be on the lookout for sneaky teens trying to skirt the regulations. Ginger Lawrence an assistant principal in Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, plans to bring a ruler and ask girls to measure themselves if their hemline appears to be cut too high above the knee. Sunnyvale High School, which is located outside of Dallas, Texas, enforces a dress code that clearly states that fabric inserts may not be sewn or pinned on a gown-since girls are known to rip them out once they make it into the dance.

Boys aren't off the hook either. The Journal reports that most schools ban jeans, baggy pants, hats, and sneakers at prom.

What do the kids think? "It's not like they are asking you to dress like a nun or anything," says Ellison Garrett, a junior at Lee County High School.

MMA Move Foils Robbery Attempt

MMA Move Foils Robbery Attempt

MMA Move Foils Robbery Attempt, Iraq vet's MMA move foils robbery attempt, Iraq vet uses rear naked choke to stop robbery, Zack Thome puts his mixed martial arts training to good use as he subdues a suspected thief. You walk into a store and see someone holding up the cashier. What do you do? If you're Zack Thome, an Iraq vet and someone who has trained in MMA, you slap a rear naked choke on the offender and choke him out.

Thome held Brandon Slanger, the suspect who is said to be schizophrenic, down as someone else called the police. Thome said he lives near the store and didn't want to see the cashier hurt.

"It's kind of my hometown. I live right next to the place, you know, I'm in there everyday. I think if it was the other way around, if I worked there and the guy at the register was there, he would have done the same thing," said Thome.

Kudos to Thome for using his MMA training to good use. But unless you've actually trained, don't try this at home, folks. Watching every UFC pay-per-view doesn't count.

Rewriting The Rules of High Speed Travel

Rewriting The Rules of High Speed Travel

Rewriting The Rules of High Speed Travel, International travel via high-speed tubes, Someday people could zip from New York to Beijing in just two hours, one group believes. Let's say it's the fourth of July, and the Clintons have invited you to their house in Westchester, New York to shoot off some fireworks and have a barbeque. From Grand Central station in New York City, it would take you an hour to get there by train. Well, imagine being able to travel to London in less time to meet the Queen for tea at Buckingham palace.

A licensing organization called ET3 believes that day isn't far off. They hold a patent to Evacuated Tube Technology or ETT and say that with their tubes, you will eventually be able to get you from New York to Beijing in 2 hours and from New York to London in less than an hour.

Their six person capsules would travel on frictionless magnetic levitation tracks, through air-less vacuum tubes reaching a maximum speed of 4,000 miles per hour. At that speed you could spend the day comparing noodles in China to Pasta in Italy and back to New York in time for cheesecake, all in the same day.

Now before you start making dinner reservations in Tuscany and sending out an RSVP to the Royal Family, this technology is still a concept and it's not clear when it will be operational. The first prototype is being built by researchers at Southwest Jiaotong University in China, who licensed ET3's technology and have worked with the founder of the company to build it.

If you're interested in getting involved, it's an open source technology and you can buy a lifetime license for a hundred dollars allowing you to propose and bid on related construction of the rails.

Lady Gaga Wears Crown, No Pants for Her Birthday

Lady Gaga Wears Crown, No Pants for Her Birthday

Lady Gaga Wears Crown, No Pants for Her Birthday, Lady Gaga's vain birthday display, The singer steps out in an over-the-top accessory (and no pants) on her 26th birthday. Lady Gaga may have told Oprah Winfrey that she didn't "intend to speak to anyone for a very long time," but she's certainly commanding attention in other ways.

Her latest "look at me" moment occurred on Wednesday (her 26th birthday) — a mere 10 days after her comment to Winfrey — when the pop star stepped out in West Hollywood in a rhinestone-covered crown, studded motorcycle jacket … and no pants. Instead, Gaga, who also carried around a little dog in a white T-shirt, opted for a pair of black sheer tights over her brief-style panties. She even posted a photo of her kooky getup on Twitter, with a message to her more than 21 million followers: "I can be, the Queen that's inside of me. You guys are the best."

Whatever Gaga does, her Little Monsters revel in it. Although wearing a crown could be considered a bit vain (even for a celebrity), countless fans re-tweeted her photo, and even more left her loving comments telling their Mother Monster how beautiful she was and wishing her the happiest of birthdays. "Thank you for being in my life!," wrote one named @JemmaLovesGaga. "Your so special to me.

I love you so much happy birthday my queen!" Other Little Monsters tweeted original videos they made in honor of her big day. The "Born This Way" singer even tweeted one in particular that caught her eye. "This is so sweet!" she added to the post. "The best birthday present ever. I love little monsters so much. Thank you so being in my life!"

Ever since Gaga's March 18 interview with Winfrey, during which she revealed she was going to purposely retreat out of the public eye, she's really done anything but. Although she hasn't been constantly out and about, she has made her presence known via her Twitter account, where she tweets out messages and photos of herself practically every day.

Three hours before her March 28 birthday, Gaga uploaded a pic of a slice of her birthday cake, albeit smashed — and placed right next to a pricey Chanel purse. On Tuesday, she posted a photo of herself sans makeup, which of course made the rounds on nearly every entertainment website since it's such a rare occurrence to see the singer without her usual face paint.

Other tweets have focused on her exercise routines (yoga and cycling), jokes about her gay friends, and a plug to buy her ex-boyfriend Luc Carl's new book.

Get ready to see a lot more of Gaga when she kicks off her Born This Way Ball tour in Seoul, South Korea, on April 27.
